What are nXDS scroll pumps?
nXDS scroll pumps are a type of vacuum pump that operates through a spiral rotor design. It is designed for applications requiring medium vacuum levels, such as in research, the semiconductor industry, medical equipment, analytical equipment, and in combination with high vacuum pumps.
The nXDS pump works based on two spiral scroll rotors that interlock. One rotor is fixed, while the other rotates eccentrically around the fixed rotor. The rotation of the eccentric rotor creates a spiral motion in the cavity between the two rotors, drawing in gas or air. Through the rotation of the rotors, the gas or air is pushed to the outer edge of the pump and expelled through the discharge opening.
What are the advantages of the nXDS pump?
There are several advantages to using nXDS scroll pumps in vacuum applications. Due to their high compression, these pumps achieve a low ultimate vacuum, comparable to an oil-sealed vacuum pump. They are used in applications where very pure and clean conditions are required. nXDS scroll pumps are also energy-efficient, have a low noise level, and are easy to maintain.
Another advantage of the nXDS pump is that it is 100% oil-free. Traditional vacuum pumps require oil to lubricate, seal, and cool internal components, but the nXDS scroll pump does not need oil. This means no contamination enters the vacuum chamber, and there is no need to replace or dispose of oil. As a result, there is no regular oil or filter replacement required, and oil vapor contamination in the work environment is no longer an issue.
nXDS scroll pumps come in various sizes and configurations to meet different needs. Single and double scroll pumps are available, as well as pumps with different capacities and ultimate vacuum levels. There are also variants suitable for corrosive gas applications, such as the Edwards nXDS-iC chemical-resistant pump.
For helium applications, a hermetically sealed variant without a gas ballast is available.
Aplications of nXDS scroll pumps
In general, the nXDS scroll pump is an efficient and reliable solution for vacuum applications that require low pressure. They are energy-efficient, easy to maintain, oil-free, and can be used in clean environments.
Scroll pumps can also be used in chemical laboratories for drying applications such as freeze-drying, rotary evaporation, centrifugation, distillation, etc. These pumps are also frequently used as fore pumps for mass spectrometers.
The nXDS pumps are quiet, compact, and easy to maintain. They are used in chemical and analytical applications and are often employed in Research & Development, chemical labs, analytical equipment, and the semiconductor industry. They are also used as backing pumps for turbopumps or cryopumps. In material and surface research, the nXDS is used in experimental setups for vacuuming the main chamber, lock chamber, or intermediate vacuum. These pumps are also suitable for vacuuming gas lines or for the insulation vacuum of cryogenic lines.
Range of nXDS scroll pumps
nXDS scroll pumps are available with capacities ranging from 3 to 46 m³/h. The ultimate vacuum of these pumps is around 2×10^-2 mbar, and some types have an ultimate vacuum of 7×10^-3 mbar.
